Life Legacy


Paul David Keeler, age 63 died Sunday, June 17 from injuries sustained in an automobile/pedestrian accident.

He was born in Paulding County, Ohio, on May 10, 1949 the son of Charles H. and Agnes C. (Noneman) Keeler. On July 23, 1990 he married Dawn Wythe, who survives. He was a 1967 graduate of Paulding High School and a US Army Veteran serving during the Viet Nam Era. He was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish; a life member Paulding V.F.W. Post #587; a member of Paulding County Sheriff Reserve; and Paulding Village Council member. He was employed as Paulding County Deputy Sheriff from 1973 – 1983; Chief of Police from 1983 – 1995; and a rural postal deliver driver for Paulding US Post Office for 17 years. He was Commander and Instructor for Paulding Police Academy from 1979 – 1995 winning numerous federal and state law enforcement training awards; Drivers Education Instructor for Paulding High School; Chief Probation Officer for Paulding County 2001 – 2006, where he won 2 successive top state awards in 2005 & 2006; and polygraph operator for Paulding County.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Keeler, Paulding; three sons, Joshua Keeler, Huntertown, Indiana; Neil (Cindi Radel) Elick, Van Wert, OH, and Brandon (Melissa) Elick, Rolla, N.D.; a brother, Larry (Sherry) Keeler, Walbridge, OH, a sister, Deb (Larry) Atchley, rural Cecil, OH; brother-in-law, Shawn (Teresa) Wythe, and sister-in-law, Shannon (Wayne) Rucshall, both of Texas; twelve grandchildren; and a great granddaughter, Natsha Stiltner.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 AM Thursday, June 21 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish with Mr. Matt Frisbey officiating. VFW Post #587 will conduct military rites.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to American Heart Association or Divine Mercy Catholic Church Paulding Prayer Garden.
